Flexlands School was founded by sisters Ann & Katherine Mais in 1935. Generations of local children were taught at this independent day school for girls and pre-preparatory boys, which was located on Station Road from 1940 until the school merged with the nearby Coworth School in 2004.
The grounds included great green spaces and a tennis court - important features we’ve maintained in the development today. Nostalgic clues about the building’s history could be spotted shortly before it was renovated; a kitchen whiteboard still displayed reminders to prepare ice-cream and jelly, cheese and pineapple and prawn vol-au-vent long after the school had relocated. We like to think the warm, fond memories of school days can still be felt in the air today. The actress Kate Beckinsale is said to have been an alumnus of Flexlands School; in fact it was here that she learned ballet, like so many of the girls who started their education here.
